Important SMSF Lending Considerations

  • You’ll need to have a bare trust and corporate trustee structure in place
  • The property must be held for the sole purpose of providing retirement benefits
  • You generally can’t live in or rent the residential property to a related party
  • Loan-to-value ratios (LVRs) are generally lower than standard loans – most lenders cap it at 70%
  • Commercial properties leased to your own business must be on commercial terms with documentation to qualify
